THE WALK

A short circular walk around the Mount Edgcumbe peninsula starting and finishing at Maker Church. The sub plot was to try out some new Scarpa mountain shoes…..see review at the end of this post.

We use the Ordnance Survey route planner app for iPhone/iPad to create all our walks these days ….. the GPS accuracy is amazing ….. especially useful when the paths just disappear!

Another pleasant sunny October day, perfect for walking…..the good weather keeps coming this year.

Old tower on it’s own in the middle of a field
Looked like an unused entrance to the Mount Edgcumbe estate
Mount Edgcumbe Street…..maybe an old warehouse
Bunker Grafitti…..couldn’t decipher it!

The Old School Rooms…..must have been a nice place to go to school

Back on the footpath…..being Mount Edgcumbe unfortunately it gets a bit crowded

CHURCHES

Finished up back at Maker Church where we had lunch in the sun then took a few photo’s in and around the Church.

SUMMARY

I’ve got to say it wasn’t our favourite type of Cornish walk, we prefer it a bit quieter, more isolated and more rugged.

That said it was lovely sunny day, finished off with lunch at Maker Church after which we spent some time in and around the church taking photo’s. Then it was off to Cotswold’s…..after much deliberation Glennis settled on the LA SPORTIVA TRANGO TOWERS.

NB. Big shout to Harry & Nicola in COTSWOLD PLYMOUTH who were incredibly patient, even working past closing time today. Harry tried every option of sock, insert, lacing technique to find the most comfortable shoes and fit for both of us.

STATISTICS

A two hour walk that took about three and a half hours!

Well that’s what happens when you’re being a tourist and stopping to take photo’s and admire the views!

PHOTO EQUIPMENT

IPHONE 11 PRO MAX: With it’s new three lens system and now waterproof the iPhone Pro Max is a perfect companion on our walks for selfies, panoramas, videos and to view our Ordnance Survey route planner maps.

OUTDOOR GEAR

Needed a short walk to try out my new Scarpa Manta Pro’s, see below, that I had picked up from COTSWOLD OUTDOOR last week for our BEN NEVIS attempt next Easter. We were going back to Cotswold’s this afternoon to pick up Glennis’s shoes and crampons so we had a morning to kill.

OUTDOOR GEAR REVIEW

Obviously they felt too big, too firm and way over the top for such a straightforward walk, but I didn’t come away with any blisters or bruising so I think I made the right decision. Tried the LA SPORTIVA TRANGO TOWER and the SCARPA RIBELLE LITE but even though the Manta’s are a heavier boot in the end they felt the most comfortable.

ORDNANCE SURVEY – We always use their iPhone/iPad route planner app to create our walks and to check out any car journey routes. Can’t go walking without GPS these days ….. love it!

MET OFFICE – Used on every walk for weather information. An invaluable tool in planning what gear to take.

WIKIPEDIA – For finding information quickly Wikipedia is far and away the best, most convenient, useful source for anything ….. whatever their critics say! I use it all the time for information about places we visit on our walks.
